I am fortunate enough to work for a company that gives employees off quite a bit of time during the winter holiday. I decided to take a minimester (one semester course done in two weeks) during this time, at our local community college. I’m not sure I was fully prepared for this class.
The course I took was History of Religion, a required course for the university that I plan to transfer into to complete my degree. I spent 8-10 hours a day reading, and not just reading, but reading the bible and a text book. If you are a Christian and have read the bible, you will know that scripture reading can be somewhat difficult. Over the course of the two weeks I read nearly the entire Old Testament and half of the New Testament, along with most of a small textbook.
Almost on a daily basis I spent hours studying at one of the many local coffee shops. I found that if I removed myself from the home environment I was able to accomplish more. The great coffee was just an added bonus
In the middle of all of this I had to have some fairly intense dental work. The course requires you to complete an entire “unit” in one day. This made me work even harder knowing I was going to be down a whole day for this dental work. It was definitely a struggle to stay ahead or caught up, but I did it, and finished one day early. I was so excited too when I saw that I finished with an A in the class!
I have signed up for the next required religion course (online), and the pace is much different. I almost think the minimester was a better idea. This course presents itself with challenges due to the lack of communication with the professor. I messaged him on the 17th, and here we are a week later and I have heard nothing in reply. For someone with my personality this lack of communication can be infuriating.
Here is to spending the next four months consuming way too much coffee, and attempting another A!
